Life without violence through awareness raising!

Project Description

The project was developed on the a threefold basis:

• Lithuanian women's low level of legal knowledge;

• Social approval of domestic violence;

• Limited access to free legal services.

The project run for two years (2009-2010). It aimed at offering legal education to women and reducing gender inequalities through the development of awareness-raising campaigns on the issue of violence against women.

During the two years legal consultations and seminars were held in Vilnius and ten other Lithuanian regions. Open debates with policy-makers on "Activism against gender violence" were also organized in order to influence the future political agenda. Flyers and leaflets were disseminated among a wide audience with the aim of raising awareness on the issue of domestic violence. An official website was published (www.lygus.lt).
